Food & Water Watch - Protect the Right to Water

Food & Water Watch is excited to announce that, earlier this week, Assembly Bill 301 passed out of the Environmental Safety and Toxic Materials Committee with a 5 to 1 bipartisan vote!

AB 301 will require bottled water corporations to report annually the amount of water they extract and bottle. This information will allow the public and local decisionmakers to access vital information that will allow them to make informed decisions and better manage our water resources.

We are also excited to be supporting Assembly Bill 1242, which will recognize that every Californian will have access to clean water for basic human needs.

We are looking forward to making sure that these bills gain the support they need to become law. In the meantime, please help in educating others about these important issues. A fun and easy way to help spread the word is by hosting a house party to screen the movie FLOW for your friends, family and others in your community.

Irena Salina’s film FLOW: For Love of Water is a comprehensive look at water issues around the world. Both moving and informative, FLOW shows us the struggles that communities from Michigan to India are undertaking to protect their most precious resource—water. Water infrastructure is a hot issue right now in the US. With a new administration that promises to address problems of crumbling infrastructure, our movement is poised to be able to make significant change. Whether you’re already a seasoned activist or are new to the issue, FLOW will inspire you to fight for water justice.

Here are ways you can help:

1) Contact your member of Congress to let them know you support a funding for water infrastructure, and encourage them to do the same.
2) Sign the petition supporting funding for clean water.
3) Get in touch with your local community officials, faith-based organization, and/or city council, and ask them to support the campaign.
